Oral Infliction

I had my tongue pierced on March 1st. It happened on a whim, totally unplanned. The initial piercing is completely painless but the healing process is similar to torture. The long barbell that allows for swelling is way too long for the inside of my mouth! It is very uncomfortable to adjust to. Chewing, spitting, yawning, picking food out of my teeth and pronunciation of certain words have all been significantly impaired. These issues should all disapear when I am able to replace the long barbell with the smaller one. Needless to say I cannot wait for that smaller barbell! I have gained a great new respect and appreciation for my tongue since piercing it. I have also decided that March 1st is going to be Tongue Appreciation Day. This day should be considered an international holiday for people all over the world to give thanks to their tongues!
